サザンオールスターズ(Southern All Stars) is a band which came out with “勝手にシンドバッド”[Katteni Sindobaddo] in 1978. サザンオールスターズ(Southern All Stars) is composed of 桑田佳祐(Kuwata Keisuke) as a leader, 関口和之(Sekiguchi Kazuyuki), 松田弘(Matsuda Hiroshi), 原由子(Hara Yuko), and 野沢秀行(Nozawa Hideyuki). 大森隆志(Omori Takashi) was independent from them in 2001. Their band was originally created by Kuwata Keisuke who was the member of a music circle at Aoyama-Gakuin University in 1975. Kuwata Keisuke is from Chigasaki city in Kanagawa prefecture. So, he created various ballads connected to his home town near the sea as well. In 1979, they released “いとしのエリー” [Itosi no Ellie] – English cover title is “Ellie My Love”. It was known as the song which Kuwata created for Hara Yuko. Hara Yuko has played the piano and got married with Kuwata later. The song was covered by many singers including even Ray Charles. Their original music attracted many people and their songs, Katteni Sindobaddo and Itosi No Ellie were hit. In 2000 they released “TSUNAMI” which had a hit record and today I will share the song. Kuwata sold both “波乗りジョニー”[Naminori Johnny] and “白い恋人達”(Siroi Koibitotachi) more than a million copies in 2001. They temporary halted their activity but they continued to make an effort to create their original music. Kuwata Keisuke has produced so many hit songs with his members until this year. This year 2013 is the 35th anniversary for them.

The emersion of Perseid Meteor Shower peaked last week. At Mt. Rokko in Kobe city people were able to observe estimated 10 meteors every hour.
Summer hit peak heat over 40 degrees C in some regions last week and the record heat attacked many people. 811 people were taken to the hospital for the Nechu-sho (heat attack) and five people died. At Simanto city in Kouchi prefecture it was over 40 degrees C during four straight days and at Toyonaka city in Osaka it was 39.1 degrees C. The number of the heat spots which became over 35 degrees C amounted to 174.
Ichiro Suzuki who currently plays for the Yankees reached the 4000th hit of his career in Japan and the U.S yesterday.
TUBE(チューブ) is a pop rock band which came out in 1985.
Summer reminds most Japanese people of TUBE. TUBE is famous for their hit summer songs. People used to say summer comes with TUBE. TUBE is composed of 前田亘輝(Maeda Nobuteru) as a leader, 春畑道哉(Haruhata Michiya), 角野秀行(Kakuno Hideyuki), and 松本玲二(Matsumoto Ryoji). Their singles consecutively entered top 10 from 1990 to 2004. “THE SEASON IN THE SUN” made a record of weekly third-ranked Oricon hit chart. Today I share “夏だね”, one of their hit summer songs. 夏 = Natsu = Summer, だね = isn’t it?

-伊達政宗(だて まさむね)[Date Masamune] Vol.2
At that time, Toyotomi Hideyoshi(豊臣秀吉) took control of almost all part of Japan. In 1590, he decided to subdue Houzyo clan(北条氏) in Kanto-region(関東地方), and ordered almost all clans in Japan -including Date clan- to send troops for him. Masamune decided to bow Tyotomi clan after serious thought*①. However, his pressure was not only that. His mother, Yoshi-hime alienated Masamune after he lost his eye, and spoiled his younger brother, Kozirou(小次郎). She attempted to poison Masamune to make Kozirou head of family. Therefore, Masamune had to kill his brother and send his mother back to Mogami clan before his departure. Masamune lost some lands, but succeeded to protect his original territory*②. At 1592 and 1596, Masamune sent 3000 soldiers to Korea*③. His army was dressed up in beautiful armor with luxurious weapons. Their horses were also very beautiful with fine fur. After a while, his army had a high popularity among people.
On Hideyoshi’s deth In 1598, Tokugawa Ieyasu(徳川家康) was rising in place of Toyotomi clan. So, Ishida Mitunari(石田三成), was a favored man of Hideyoshi, raised an army to defeat Ieyasu in 1600. This conflict between Ieyasu and Mitunari involved whole part of Japan, and all clans are divided into two groups. Masamune supported Ieyasu and fought with Uesugi clan(上杉氏). The war was finished with execution of Mitunari, and Ieyasu established Edo-shogunate(江戸幕府) in 1603.

*①: Houzyou clan was alliance of Date clan.
*②: Hideyoshi provided prohibition of private disputes among Daimyo. Masamune violated this law.
*③:Hideyoshi planned to make Korea into submission and to invade China. However, Koreasn dynasty resisted, so he sent about 150000 soldiers to Korea twice. Nevertheless, they faced an uphill struggle and withdrew right after Hideyoshi died.
