Today’s poem is “Doutei” of 高村光太郎 (Takamura Koutarou, 1883-1956).
For you, I don’t unveil his life now so that you can expand your imagination.

道程

僕の前に道はない
僕の後ろに道は出来る
ああ、自然よ
父よ
僕を一人立ちにさせた広大な父よ
僕から目を離さないで守る事をせよ
常に父の気魄を僕に充たせよ
この遠い道程のため

boku no ushiro ni michi wa dekiru
aa shizen yo
chichi yo
boku o hitoridachi ni saseta koudai na chichi yo
boku kara me o hanasanaide mamoru koto o seyo

key words:
道程[Doutei] = journey, road, transitional process
僕の[bokuno]前に[mae ni] = in front of me
僕の[bokuno]後ろに[ushiro ni] = behind me
僕の[bokuno] = my (but it is males’ word)
道はない[michi wa nai] = there is no road
道は出来る[michi wa dekiru] = a road is created/made
自然[shizen] = Nature => Mother Nature
父[chichi] = Father => God
広大な[koudaina] = broad, vast, extensive, immense => mighty
一人立ち[hitoridachi] = be independent
守る[mamoru] = protect, guard, ensure
常に[tsuneni] = always
気魄[kihaku] = spirit
充たす[mitasu] = fulfill, satisfy, assuage
遠い[tooi] = far, faraway

相田みつを (あいだ みつを)

道はじぶんで
つくる
道は自分で
ひらく
人のつくったものは
じぶんの道には
ならない

key words:
道 [michi] = road, way ->> a (new) life
じぶんで[jibunde] = by myself
つくる[tsukuru] = create
ひらく[hiraku] = open (up)
道になる[michi-ninaru] = become a road or way –>> become my life
人[hito] = human ->> other people
つくったもの[tsukutta-mono] = (things) they created/made
ならない[naranai] = (it) doesn’t become..
